After the release of Netflix’s most viewed original animated film ever, Kpop demon huntersPeople still cannot be seen singing on dance and song ‘Soda Pop’, ‘Golden’ or ‘Your Idol’. This week, four songs from this American animated musical-fantasy film have made it in the top 10 of the Bilboard Global Music Chart, even the fan theory continues about whether the film will get a sequel.
The film follows the life of a fictional K-pap girl group, Hunter/X, which relates to a long legacy of female demon hunters, which works to keep a magic hurdle strong through their singing. The ‘Honmoon’ seals the demons by stealing people’s souls and feeding them to their demon suzerain. The demons are disguised as a prey boy group before they face obstacles as boys of punishment. Since the release of the film, the girls have become crooks superhero inspiration and fashion icons.
For the Sony Pictures Animation directors Maggi Kong and Chris Applehans, who co-written and co-directed the film, the global success of the film has been life-threatening. “In the core, it is a story about people trying to find love and acceptance in the world, despite their flaws,” Chris says, the film echoed with audiences around the world.
Global subject
“In such a film, one that is set in Korean culture and is in Korean characters, it tells an audience that no matter who you are and where you come from, we all want love and acceptance. It is a very global theme,” says Maggi.
The challenge for Maggi and Chris was in creating the main characters who were reliable as real ke-pap stars, and as real people. “A lot of hard work went on to write their music, vocal talent, unique chorio, and of course, but it was equally important to develop them as humans – their friendship, their fears, their favorite snacks and pajama pants, which, say, Zoy, Mira and Rumi’s three main protagragists.
Maggi said, “We both want to see more reliable female characters, who are dirty, foolish, make stupid faces, and we thought it would especially be refreshed to see that in superhero space.

The team spent a lot of time to get the casting right. Arden Cho, who gives voice to Rumi, and Ahaan Hu-Saop, which especially gives the voice to Jinu, called Chris, had a lot of balance in his characters. “Beyond being talented, both of them were really dedicated. It took several hours and several recording sessions to find that balance, but they were both firm to nail it,” Chris misses.
Since its release, the film has greatly praised the Korean culture, mythology, and even real places in Seoul were converted into a visually stunning animated frame in the film. Maggi, born in Korea and brought to Canada, says he traveled to South Korea as a team for research places. “You can’t feel the energy of a city from photos. You can only get it from receiving it, and I think the journey really helped capture all the special details of our places – the narrow streets of the Bukechon Hanok village, and the nature and beauty of the Jeju Island,” she says. The field of Myeongdong, which presents prominently in the film, holds a special place in her heart because she was born there, and it was also a place where her parents first met.
Korean culture representing onscreen
“I grew up in Canada at a time when Korea was not really known. My third-class teacher could not even find Korea when I told him where I was from. It was ideal for me for years-This was a negligible country between China and Japanese. So how to see Korean culture and how it is, how it is important.” So, so I wanted to convince it through the film, “she says.
Chris, also, is a Korean connection; His wife is Korean-American, and he jokes that if he had anything wrong, he would have been a shame of his in-laws for eternity. “But in all seriousness, we had an incredible crew with many Korean members who brought their knowledge and personal experience, and added so much depth and authenticity. It shows how important the diversity in animation is, not just in the role of a leadership like Maggi, but in every department,” they say.

The principles are moving about which specific idol or K-pap group inspired the punished boys, but Maggi is in a hurry to set a direct record. “We were all inspired by K-Pop,” she says. “Yes, we created reference boards, but in fact, it is not appropriate to name specific groups because they were on them. For me, one of the biggest references was warm, which was my original favorite group since the 90s. They used to go from a very cutecy, bubble gum single, a full 180 and the next single, a full 180 and the next single, a dark and rigorous,” Jiosung Shabi Boys, or Korea Boys, or Korean Grieps, or Korean Grieps, or Kogin Griests, or Korean Grieps, or Kogin Griests It was going to be from, Maggi says, which is why when they start with the Breezi ‘Soda Pop’, they end with darkness and brooding ‘your idol’.
Films centered around music are now actually a moment in the spotlight. Title of Closure Home, Ahaan Pandey and Eette Padda track Sayara This week is also on the Billboard Top 10 Global Chart, with four songs of the K-Pop demon hunters.
So what does it take to get the right soundtrack for a film where everything rests on music? “We really work to ensure that the songs had a pop catches, but also had a story aim. I think, I think it helped us write great pop songs because each one had to tell a compelling story,” says Chris. Sony had music manufacturer Ian Icendraratha and Spring ascers assistants, he said, he said, and more important to cooperate with talented lyricists, to develop songs without much interference for creative security.
“We also ensured that no two songs feel the same. Our film has many different tones, and so it means that naturally our soundtrack will feel the same. Every song has a different vibi and a different message, and I honestly think that the Soundtrack makes the Soundtrack so thrilling,” Smash-Hit Soundtrack.
When he was asked about the possibility of a sequel for a film, which seems to have a story to be taken forward, the two directors remain mam. So until an official announcement comes, it is an endless revatch and soundtrack on the loop for fans.
