Mahesh Bhatt reacts strongly to criticism of son-in-law Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal

Mumbai: Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal may have earned 1000 crores at the box office, but it has been equally criticized and termed as a toxic film. Many people have openly criticized Animal and filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has also had a war of words with those who criticized his film, including Javed Akhtar. Amid the uproar over Animal, Ranbir Kapoor’s father-in-law and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has reacted strongly to the criticism of the film.

Mahesh Bhatt said in his interview to Hindustan Times, “These are occupational hazards. You can’t do both things. You stand in the sun, you get sunburn.” He further added, “This is also a part of entertainment… It’s a bloody sport. You go out on the field and some people celebrate your fall and some people celebrate your victory. So this is a part of it.”

Mahesh Bhatt said that people who are being criticized have chosen this life, “That’s why there are very few artists in the world and most people are spectators. The world ultimately belongs to creators and not to people who just sit and throw bricks at a good artist. It takes a different kind of courage to be an artist.”

When Ranbir Kapoor appeared on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath, he addressed the ongoing debate around animals.

and added, “Social media wreaked havoc. They needed something to talk about, so they literally claimed that it was an anti-women film. What happens is that the hard work that you put in… I know the director who made Kabir Singh also faced the same thing, the hard work falls short. Because it got this tag, which is not true, the perception stayed with this film.”

Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen in Animal Park and the film will be more violent, Vanga has claimed.
