In the new promo for the upcoming horror film Longlegs, titled “Heartbeat,” we get a glimpse of the first encounter between Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. The promo focuses on the scene where Monroe’s character, FBI agent Lee Harker, first sees Cage’s terrifying portrayal of the serial killer Longlegs. The film crew captured Monroe’s heart rate during this moment, which increased to an astonishing 170 bpm.
Monroe described the moment as unforgettable: “When I walked in and saw Nicolas Cage as Longlegs, that was an experience I’ll never forget.” Although the promo tries to avoid showing Cage’s full look, Monroe’s fear appears to be evidence of his transformation.
Longlegs follows FBI agent Lee Harker as he gets to the bottom of a complex case involving mysterious elements and a ruthless killer who has a personal connection to him. The stakes rise as Harker races against time to save another family from becoming victims.
Director Oz Perkins explained the decision to keep Cage’s character a secret: “It’s leading people to a freak show in a circus tent. We’ve set the thing up behind a curtain, and when enough people have gathered, we’ll pull back the curtain.”
Nicolas Cage compared his character to a volatile substance: “The monster is a very dangerous substance. The way it’s transported, exposed, deployed, it must be handled with great care.”
Longlegs has been compared to classic psychological thrillers like The Silence of the Lambs, and Neon’s viral marketing strategy for the film has been a topic of discussion.
Longlegs will be released in theaters on July 12.
