Makeup for different seasons: adjusting your beauty routine as the seasons change

Every season brings changes in our skin, hence our cosmetics should also change. Whether it’s the sticky heat of summer or the dry cold of winter, modifying your beauty products and practices will keep your skin healthy and your makeup looking beautiful. A good skin care routine, color scheme and foundation can really make a difference.

Let’s start with some important advice shared by Drishti Madnani, co-founder and beauty expert, Shryon Cosmetics, that will help you easily modify your beauty regimen for every season.

1. Change your base: hydration vs. breathability:
Your skin’s moisture content varies depending on the climate, so it’s important to choose the appropriate foundation for each season. Due to the dryness of indoor heating, low humidity and cold winter air, hydrating foundations or tinted moisturizers with hyaluronic acid help seal in moisture and prevent flaking, keeping your makeup looking flawless all day. Finish is also important – use a matte or soft-matte finish in the summer months to reduce glare, and a dewy or glossy finish in the cooler months for a fresh and radiant appearance.

2. Stress blush over bronzer: Seasonal color revision
The climate of the season should be reflected in your cosmetic choices. In winter, blush not only looks good, but it is also a necessity. When your skin begins to lose some of its natural warmth a well-chosen blush in a deeper tone like wine, berry or warm peach will breathe life back into your complexion by simulating a natural flush.

However, spring and summer encourage a sunnier complexion. Now is the time to switch to bronzer instead of bold blush. Applying a small layer of bronzer to your nose, cheeks and forehead can create dimension and warmth, giving you a carefree and beachy look.

3. Apply your makeup: keep it on regardless of the weather
Setting makeup is a year-round need, although tools and methods change slightly depending on the season. Use a matte setting spray or light setting powder to keep oil under control in the summer and keep your makeup from melting off. In hot weather, a shiny T-zone is typical, and these items can help you look great even on the hottest days.

Use moisturizing setting sprays in the winter to lock in moisture and keep your makeup from drying out or clumping in dry areas. You can feel more comfortable in any season by including sweat- and waterproof-resistant products in your regimen because your makeup remains intact regardless of the weather.

4. Skin care preparations: the cornerstone of fine cosmetics
Flawless complexion is the key to beautiful and long-lasting makeup. Keeping your skin healthy and makeup-ready requires different skin care techniques depending on the season. The dry air of winter can reduce your skin’s hydration levels, so look for nourishing serums and creamy creams. High-moisture products create a smooth foundation for makeup, avoiding flakiness and patchiness. As summer approaches, you should use light, moisturizing, oil-free moisturizers. Use SPF every summer (preferably all year long) to keep your skin looking youthful and protected from harmful UV radiation.

Embrace seasonal changes to update your style
Changing your makeup with the seasons not only maintains the health of your skin, but it also gives you a chance to experiment with new looks and trends. The change in seasons offers a chance to improve your diet, try new styles, and discover what makes you feel radiant and confident.

You can stay ahead of seasonal problems by making smart modifications, such as changing your foundation, highlighting blush or bronzer, setting your makeup correctly and modifying your skin-care routine.
