The Pakistani education activist celebrated her first “proper” concert experience when she attended the show with her husband, Asar Malik, and some close friends. As she shared photos from the concert on social media, she recalled a childhood memory involving Taylor. In her caption, she wrote, “After living in a time when music and art were banned, music felt like a gift.”

In 2008, when Malala was just 11 years old, she lived in a small town called Swat Valley in Pakistan that was taken over by the Taliban, who banned any form of entertainment, including music and television. They also banned girls from going to school. However, from her time spent in school, she remembers Love Story as her favourite and Moniba, who was her best friend in school.

In the caption, she wrote, “Moniba and I found the highest rock, climbed to the top and told all of our classmates and teachers that we were going to sing our new favorite song, Love Story. We sang with all our hearts, enjoying every moment. This is where my Swifty journey began,” as reported by People.

She also shared her first-ever concert experience in the caption, writing, “It feels magical to be seeing my first proper concert @TaylorSwift singing along to every song with friends.”

Malala’s insightful caption on music

Malala watched her first “proper” concert at the age of 27. She used the occasion to highlight that many people are still unable to enjoy music of their own free will. In her caption, she reminded her followers, “Three years ago, the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. Once again, there is no music in the streets, and girls and women are barred from school, work, and public life.” In September 2021, the Taliban reestablished the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

She concluded, “In Swat, music made my friends and I feel confident and free. And I hope that one day we will live in a world where every girl can enjoy music and live her wildest dreams.”
