The film’s legend Manoj Kumar died at the age of 87 in Mumbai due to heart -related complications in the early hours of Friday. He was seen as a patriotic poster boy during the 60s and 70s. Social media is putting tribute and emotional messages for the film veteran. Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Hansal Mehta, Madhur Bhandarkar, Farhan Akhtar shared the actor’s fond memories.
Akshay Kumar wrote in his X post that he learned patriotism from him. Akshay Kumar wrote, “I learn from them that there is no feeling like love and pride for our country. And if we do not lead the actors in showing this feeling?

Ajay Devgan remembered how Manoj Kumar gave his first break to his father Veeru Devgan.
He wrote, “Manoj Kumar ji was not just a cinematic icon – he was a personal milestone in my family’s visit. He gave my father, Viru Devgan, his first break as an action director in Roti Capada and Maken. From there, his cooperation continued in all ways for revolution, which is now part of the history of Indian cinema.
Manoj ji’s films – Cess, Purba and Paschim, Shor, Kranti, they were not just movies … they were national sentiments. His creative talent, unbreakable patriotism, and the depth of storytelling set a benchmark, which matches very little.
As Indian cinema bid farewell to his Bharat Kumar – a storyteller, a patriot and a legend. I want to thank my father’s journey and inspire countless storytellers like me.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, “Manoj Kumar used to be a patient of my grandfather, and I have blurred memories to see him in the clinic. Later, like Ashok Kumar, he started practicing homeopathy. When I met him once, he said warmly that he said warmly, ‘Doctor Saab’s director was banned, and dekes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the news of the death of “famous actor and filmmaker” on Social Media X (East Twitter). Sharing two paintings with an experienced actor, PM Modi wrote, “He was an icon in Indian cinema, especially remembered for his patriotism, which was also reflected in his films. Manoj ji’s actions ignited the spirit of nation pride and continue to inspire generations. My thoughts are with his family and fans in this hour.”
The roles of Mr. Kumar in patriotic films like Cess (1967), Purba and Pachim (1970) and Kranti (1981) gave him the nickname ‘Bharat Kumar’. He directed the noise (1972) in which he also acted.
Mr. Kumar won the Best Director Award at the Filmfare Awards in 1975 for his film Roti Capada and House.
Mr. Kumar received the Padma Shri in 1992, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
