Good news for Marvel fans! The first trailer for Thunderbolts* starring Sebastian Stan and Florence Pugh is finally here. The teaser released on Monday sees some of Marvel’s mismatched individuals teaming up for a government-given mission. Directed by Jake Schreier, the action-adventure film will hit theaters on May 2 next year. Read on to find out everything you need to know ahead of the release:
Who stars in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*?
Along with Stan, the main character of the Captain America franchise, Black Widow actors Pugh and David Harbour also star in Thunderbolts*. While Stan plays Bucky Barnes, Pugh and Harbour play Yelena Belova and Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, respectively.
Other key cast members include – Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel: de Fontaine’s assistant, Lewis Pullman as Bob/Sentry and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster.
In addition, Harrison Ford is expected to make a guest appearance as US President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Meanwhile, Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are expected to reprise their respective MCU roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff.
What is Marvel’s Thunderbolts* about?
Thunderbolts* is the 36th MCU film, which revolves around a group of reformed villains who are brought together by the US government to carry out a covert operation. According to Indie Wire, the official synopsis of the film reads, “Thunderbolts is about an unlikely team-up involving sadistic assassin Yelena Belova (Pugh) as well as a group of the MCU’s least expected misfits.”
It is produced by Kevin Feige, while Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez and Scarlett Johansson are executive producers. Based on Kurt Busiek’s comic series of the same name, Thunderbolts* is written by Eric Pearson, known for his work on Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok, with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo also writing the screenplay.
