The popular sitcom Friends is celebrating its 30th anniversary in September, with this year marking three decades since the airing of its pilot episode on September 22, 1994. To commemorate the show, props and costumes are being auctioned off on September 23, 2024. Of the many items to be auctioned off, the most-seen item belongs to Chandler Bing.

Chandler’s cashmere sweater from Friends
The most viewed item of all was a cashmere sweater belonging to Matthew Perry’s character, Chandler, in Friends. The sweater had a pre-sale price of $1,500, but the price is expected to rise following Perry’s unfortunate death on October 28 and the arrest of his doctor and drug dealer in early August.
The item’s caption read, “Teal, 100% cashmere, polo-style sweater has long sleeves and a two-button front closure. Labeled ‘Autumn Cashmere. Size L.'”
Jules Auctions said, “Chandler can be seen wearing the sweater in Season 7, Episode 10, titled ‘The One with the Holiday Armadillo,’ in a scene at Central Perk where Monica tells him she won’t be changing her last name to Bing. Then again when Phoebe brings her late mother’s Christmas candy dish — a human skull — to the gang’s holiday party,” as reported by the New York Post.
“Each item in this 30th anniversary collection holds a tangible connection to the magic of ‘Friends,’ one of the most beloved shows in TV history, which shaped a generation and made us laugh, cry, and feel like we were part of the ‘Friends’ gang,” said Darren Julien, executive director and co-founder of Julien’s Auctions.

Other items also included in the auction
While the sweater is getting the most attention, the second most-seen item is the sweater worn by Jennifer Aniston’s character, Rachel Green. She wore the sweater in the seventh season episode The One with the Truth About London. The sweater is worth $4,000 as of Sept. 1. Other items in the auction include a head sculpture of the character played by Ross Geller in David Schwimmer’s apartment, an ottoman from his living room and a shirt worn by Bruce Willis’ character, Paul Stevens.
