Washington: Singer-songwriter and pianoist Billy Joel opened about the dark and painful phase of life. After the premiere of his new documentary, Billy Joel: and so it goes, at the Tribeca Festival, the musician shared that he went through two suicide attempts and fell into a coma after having a connection with his former bandmate’s wife.
In the early 20s, Joel was in a band called Attila with his best friend John Small. At that time, he moved with the younger, Elizabeth Weber – Small’s wife – and his son reported the people.
“Bill and I spent a lot of time together,” Elizabeth said in the documentary, saying that it was a “slow construction”. Then, the younger realized that something was up and Joel came to him with the truth: “I love your wife.”
The singer said, “I found it very, very guilty about it. He had a child. I was feeling like a housewife,” The singer said, “I was just in love with a woman and I punished in the nose, which I was entitled to. John was very upset. I was very upset.”
As a result of this fight, the end of Attila and their friendship ended for some time. Years later, Elizabeth and Joel re-joined and married 1973–1982.
He said, “I had no place to live. I was sleeping in Londromat and I was sad, I think it’s almost psychological,” he said in the documentary. “So I thought,” that’s it. I don’t want to live anymore. ” I was just in a lot of pain and it was like why hanging out, like tomorrow, is like today and today is useless.
Joel’s sister, Judy Molinari, was working as a medical assistant, and she gave her gold pills to help her sleep.
“But Billy decided that he was going to take all of them … he was in a coma for days and days and days,” he said in the documentary, “I had gone to see him in the hospital, and he was laying white as a sheet. I thought I had killed him.”
Small said, “He never really said anything to me, the only practical answer I can give why Billy took it so difficult because he loved me very much and killed him and killed him and hurt me. Finally I forgave him.”
After suicide attempts, he felt like a “lost soul” and checked himself in the “observation ward”. This experience was a life-changing for Joel, which was released within a few weeks. “I got out of the observation ward and I thought myself, you can use all those feelings to channel all those feelings in music,” he said, people said.
