In a world where music evolves with every passing moment, Delhi-based singer-songwriter Manthan Somvanshi has stepped into the limelight with his debut track, TeasingWith this release, she aims to showcase her vocal ability and eclectic musical influences, hoping listeners will appreciate her seamless blend of pop sensibility and lyrical depth, which offers a fresh perspective on modern music.
He said, “Initially I had not decided that I would only enter the field of pop music. I was open to all kinds of ideas. I loved pop music and I initially wanted to make songs in this genre.”
He emphasises his openness to experimentation, which is influenced by his admiration for diverse artists. He insists that his musical journey has been shaped by various artists who have left an indelible mark on his creative process. These include international stars such as Zayn Malik and Lana Del Rey, as well as homegrown independent artists such as Raghav Meetal.
“I was listening to a variety of music and was influenced by all these artistes. I am open to experimenting with other genres as well to create a diverse mix,” he says.
Somvanshi says, “One person who has been a constant with me throughout this journey is Zayn Malik. While he has been a constant, many other artistes have contributed to my growth as an artiste. Lana Del Rey is known for her unconventional approach to songwriting. She instilled in me the belief that you can be unique and still be in music.”
As Manthan continues to develop his unique voice, he acknowledges how important it is to find your own voice in the industry. “Initially, when you are new to this field, you can be so influenced by other artistes that you try to copy them, but that is not your voice. It is really important to find your own voice,” he says.
For Somvanshi, this realisation proved to be a turning point in his artistic journey. Teasing As a first step, he hopes to inspire others through his music, just as his own inspirations have inspired him.
He says, “Even in future songs, if I am able to express my weaknesses, I would like to give credit to those artistes who helped me understand that there is nothing wrong in expressing my weaknesses.”
His music serves as a bridge between his personal experiences and his listeners. “If you’re going through something, it’s better to talk about it and share it with others,” he says.
“There are people who might agree with that. Like Lana [Del Rey] “What has helped me throughout my process is that I hope my music can help others as well,” he concluded, promising that he is committed to exploring new sounds, expressing his truth, and connecting with audiences on a deeper level.
