Anurag Basu’s contingent ‘Metro in Dino’ may not have left the box office on day 1, but it has still managed to improve the early number of life in a metro in its predecessor ‘life. According to the initial estimates of the industry tracker Centillk, the film, which makes an impressive lineup of actors including Anupum Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan, earned ₹ 3.35 crore on Friday.
Romantic drama, which weaves the lives of four couples in urban India together, is a spiritual successor of Basu’s 2007 creed hit. While the ‘metro in dino’ is opened for a minor figure, it is considered a decent beginning for a style that rarely sees explosive numbers in a day.
The film saw the strongest leg in metros such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru, with nationwide average 17.99% occupancy. In fact, Delhi NCR and Mumbai led the total show count, suggesting that the urban viewers are keen on the film’s slic-of-life story.
Interestingly, advance booking had estimated a lukewarm inauguration of around ₹ 50-60 lakh, but the film crossed the expectations and crossed the ₹ 3.5 crore mark. This demonstration already puts it ahead of ‘Life in a Metro’, with the first day’s earnings of 87 lakhs, but ₹ 24.31 crore was collected globally.
