RICKMANSWORTH, England – Music memorabilia ranging from Michael Jackson’s jacket to Noel Gallagher’s guitar will be auctioned off next month, with the sale expected to raise nearly £2 million.
Entertainment memorabilia auctioneer PropStore is offering more than 350 pieces of music used or owned by megastars at its November 15 sale as part of the four-day event. As part of which, film and television props and costumes will also be sold.
Musical highlights include a Jimi Hendrix master tape containing four unreleased demo recordings in a box on which the musician has written their titles.
A handwritten, framed “Beat It” song by Jackson and some of his jackets will also be auctioned. A black and gold military-style jacket has an estimated price of £200,000 – 400,000, while his red “Thriller” tour rehearsal jacket comes with several famous signatures.
“Not only is it signed by Michael, but inside, on the back layer, it’s signed by John Landis, who… directed the ‘Thriller’ video, and his wife, Deborah Landis, who directed Michael The jacket is designed to be worn,” Mark Hochman, music expert at PropStore, told Reuters.
“At the end of the day, it’s a ‘Thriller’ jacket that Michael is wearing.”
Also up for sale are 15 guitars previously owned and played by Noel Gallagher, which PropStore says is the largest collection of Oasis guitars ever to come to auction. It is said to include a cream Hohner JT60, from his first stint with the band.
“Oasis guitars come up for auction…predominantly they are Noel’s guitars and they are highly sought after by collectors,” Hochman said.
“The reunion has taken that interest to a different level.”
Other lots include John Lennon’s 1962 Fawn JMI Vox AC15 twin amp and a synthesizer Prince used during the recording of “Purple Rain”.
