Mickey 17 trailer: After the Oscar-winning Parasite, Bong Joon Ho’s film stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.
Fans who have been eagerly waiting for director Bong Joon Ho’s next film after the Oscar-winning Parasite have finally got a chance to rejoice. The trailer of the director’s much-awaited sci-fi film Mickey 17 starring Robert Pattinson was released by Warner Bros on Wednesday. Pattinson plays an ‘expendable’ employee who is sent for a human mission. (Also read: Why Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola said ‘Hollywood doesn’t want me anymore’)
About the trailer
Mickey 17 is based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7, starring Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, an unlikely hero called an Expendable. He is a disposable unit sent on a mission to colonize the ice world Niflheim.
The trailer begins with his character saying, ‘Nothing was working and I was trying to get off the Earth.’ He fully understands the terms and conditions involved, which means that every time he dies, a new version (or several) of him will be printed and produced. The trouble arises when he bumps into several of his own characters without dying, and the two can’t stand each other.
More information
The trailer also features Robert Pattinson using a strange accent, and he is joined by actors like Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
Mickey 17 is Bong’s first feature film since Parasite, which became the highest-grossing Korean film in history, as well as the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
The film was earlier scheduled to release in March this year, but Warner Bros rescheduled the release date of the sci-fi film to January 31, 2025. This release date allows Mickey 17 to be released in IMAX, which would not have been possible earlier as all these dates were previously reserved for other films.
