Blumhouse has officially announced that Mike Flanagan, veteran horror-author Doctor Sleep and Netflix’s Haunting anthology series, will direct a new installment the Exorcist franchise. Flanagan is set to write, direct and produce what’s described as “a revolutionary new take” on the iconic horror series in collaboration with genre producers Blumhouse and Morgan Creek.

This development comes after last year’s disappointing box office performance. Ojha: Believer, Which grossed $65.5 million in the US and Canada and $136.2 million worldwide. The film’s director, David Gordon Green, has since stepped down from the franchise, clearing the way for Flanagan’s new vision.
According to a press release, the upcoming film will present a completely new story the Exorcist universe, separate from the 2023 film. Flanagan will produce the film through his newly founded Red Room Pictures, along with Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures. John Scherer will also be involved in the production on behalf of Intrepid.

This project is the fourth collaboration between Flanagan and Blumhouse. The pair have previously worked together on several successful horror projects such as Oculus (2013), Keep quiet (2016), and Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016). Macy, who produced these films, continues to work closely with Flanagan.
Flanagan said,the Exorcist That’s one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it’s an honor to have the chance to bring something new, bold, and scary into this world. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, who I’ve made some of my favorite work with, makes it even more exciting.”
Blumhouse founder Jason Blum said, “Mike’s voice and perspective are indispensable to horror fans and we are excited to welcome him back to Blumhouse. I immediately responded to Mike’s fresh take on the world of horror. the Exorcist And I can’t wait for the audience to experience it.”
