Warner Bros. released the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie on Wednesday, giving fans a glimpse into the blocky video game’s world. The fantasy adventure film, directed by Jared Hess, is scheduled to release in theaters on April 4, 2025. The one minute and twenty second clip shows Jack Black and Jason Momoa facing off against aggressive piglins.

Based on the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour, the trailer showcases the vibrant world of Minecraft with stunning visuals. The blocky universe is filled with the popular video game’s trademark building blocks, monsters and villains. “You can build anything you dream up here,” the School of Rock actor says in the trailer, before introducing himself to a group of misfits, saying, “I’m Steve.”

Who stars in the Minecraft movie?
In addition to Black and the Aquaman star, the film’s main cast includes Emma Myers (Wednesday) as Natalie, Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple) as Dawn, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy) as Henry. In addition, Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde), Kate McKinnon (Barbie), and Jemaine Clement (Men in Black 3) are also set to appear in A Minecraft Movie.

What is the Minecraft movie about?
The synopsis for A Minecraft Movie reads, “Four misfits — Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) — find themselves dealing with the usual problems when they’re suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination,” according to People.
“To get back home, they must take control of this world (and also save it from bad things like piglins and zombies) while embarking on a magical quest with an unpredictable, expert craftsman, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to become courageous and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative … the same skills they need to thrive back in the real world,” it adds.
