Audition in a restaurant
Recalling the incident in detail, Isha wrote that while auditioning for roles during her early days, she was invited by Shanu Sharma to perform a visual performance at a restaurant called Mia Kukina in Versova, Mumbai.
“So when I started an audition for roles with Shanu … I was asked to perform a scene in a restaurant called Mia Kukina in Versova, Bombay … A crying scene in the midst of a busy working restaurant with customers who eat next to my table,” He wrote. “I was told that I should not have any obstruction as an actor and so I should be able to do a crying scene with Shanu, who is sitting in front of me and in front of some of his assistants.”
He said, “This was such a misleading/strange.
In her post, Isha reflected on an emotional toll that the audition request took her as a newcomer in the industry. He described the situation as one “shattered” [her] Self -confidence “and wondered why a senior casting director would ask a young aspiration actor to do such an emotionally weak scene in such an inappropriate setting.
He said, “I could not understand why a senior casting director needs to keep a young girl through it … It is only appropriate that an actor is placed a good casting office to be able to audition,” he said.
He said that if it was important for realism audition, the production house should be hired and paid for it, rather than putting actors in uncomfortable public conditions.
A message to the newcomers
The actor, who did not get a role at that time, said that he did not regret closing a bizarre request. He also used the moment to send a message to aspirational actors: stand on his ground and do not feel pressure to follow unfair demands in the name of performance.
“Just after a decade after a decade to tell you to tell you that there is a pressure to tell you … I remember that I can say that I can’t do this and of course I never got a role … but at least I give strange ask and definitely cry in a restaurant for a role !!!!!”
