Mithun Chakraborty defended the files of Bengal: ‘If we show the truth, it is called publicity’

Mumbai: “The Bengal Files” is a film that speaks about what happened in Bengal in 1946, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty says that the truth shown by filmmakers has been rejected as “promotion”.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s third in “Files” Trillji, the film revolves around the Calcutta riots of August 16, 1946, which was triggered after the All-India Muslim League for ‘Direct Action Day’ to demand a separate homeland.

Chakravarti, who has been a regular in most films of Agnihotri, including “The Teshant Files”, “The Kashmir Files” and The New One, said that there is a section that is always trying to target such films. “If we speak the truth, it is called publicity. Does our generation not know what happened to Nokhali, and what was the murder of Calcutta? They should not know about it? It is very amazing. It’s a film about the truth, history, what happened to Bengal and Nokhali, and Kalcutta’s murder.

“These people are always meant to target things, no matter what you do. With ‘The Teshant files’, do you not want to know what happened to our great Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, or what happened to Kashmiri Pandits? You only heard that they were thrown out, but how did it happen now?” Former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP politician said that he plays the role of a crazy, who is a riot victim, in the film that serves as the discretion of the story.

75 -year -old Chakraborty criticized people for targeting the film without watching the trailer of the film. Agnihotri has alleged the trailer launch event of “The Bengal files” in Kolkata that he faced suboteses and had to change the site at the last moment.

The Trinumool Congress, led by Mamta Banerjee, has described the film as politically inspired, calling for boycott and ban.

“People had not seen the trailer and said, ‘It should be banned’. What is this to be banned in the trailer? Like, nudity is passed in the name of cinematic freedom, but in this film, there is no such thing. There is no such thing. There is no such thing. Violence is part of life and if you have done so, you accept it,” the actor said.

Chakraborty praised Agnihotri, saying that the director always creates a character for him in his films.

“He works a lot in this. He is a radically looking for a real story, and it is something amazing. He goes deeply in the story that his document is always correct.” When asked about the controversy around the National Award for “The Kerala Story”, Chakraborty called those who criticized the victory of the film as “pseudo intellectuals”.

“The people of the jury were not from Kerala, they were from all over the country. He thought that the film should get a national award, but then there was a lot of disturbance about it. Therefore, whenever you speak the truth, there will be people (who will oppose it).” Chakraborty, who won the National Film Award for his first role in Mrin Sen’s 1976 film “Mrigay” before he got a commercial success in Bollywood with films like “Disco Dancer”, “Commando”, “Pyaar Jhukta Nahi”, said at this point in his career, he is receptive to any role.

“I want to do films that I am doing Gudgudi (Gudgudi) in Bengali or Hindi. I am doing a film with Prabhas named ‘Fauji’, and with Rajinikanth, who is ‘Jailor 2’. These are all professional films. However, ‘Fauji’ has a patriotism.

“I am a senior star, a big star. I have got a great fan, I do not run away from it, I don’t run away from it. It’s not that I only want to do the role of ‘disco dancer’. I have changed myself over time. I am moving ahead with time,” he said.

“The Bengal Files” also stars Saswata Chatterjee, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Priyanshu Chatterjee and Darshan Kumar, and is scheduled for a dramatic release on 5 September.
