Now that the monsoon season is here, it is important to revise your skin and hair care routine to tackle the challenges this season brings. Rain brings relief from the scorching heat of summer, but it also increases the humidity levels which can damage our skin and hair.
To keep your skin and hair healthy this season, here are some tips shared by Sherin Bhan, Co-Founder and Cosmetologist, Studio 1915 Luxury Aesthetic Clinic that will help you keep your skin and hair healthy this rainy season:
● The first and foremost thing for your skin is to stay hydrated. Always drink plenty of water, this will keep your skin hydrated and help fight moisture loss caused by humidity. Hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables like watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, etc. should also be included in your diet, as these foods naturally increase the hydration levels of your skin. External hydration like applying light, water-based moisturizers is also important to prevent your skin from feeling sticky in humid weather.
● Humidity levels are at their peak during this season. Our skin produces more oil, which leads to acne breakouts and dull skin. Use a gentle cleanser that effectively removes oil, dirt, and impurities from your skin, without stripping it of its natural oils. Include using an exfoliator once or twice a week in your skincare routine to remove dead skin cells and tighten pores, which promotes healthy and glowing skin.
● Cloudy weather doesn’t mean that the sun’s harmful UV rays can’t harm your skin. To protect your skin from UV ray damage, start using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and reapply it every two hours, especially if you’re outdoors. Sunscreen not only protects your skin from UV ray damage, but it also prevents premature aging and hyperpigmentation and keeps your skin glowing.
● Now talking about hair care during monsoon, it is important to keep your scalp clean and healthy. Taking care of your scalp is very important during this humid season. Using shampoo at least once a week to remove product build-up and excess oil promotes a healthy environment for the scalp. Consider a gentle shampoo that cleanses the scalp without stripping it of its natural oils.
● After cleansing your scalp, it is also important to deep condition your hair. Extreme levels of humidity make your hair dry and unmanageable, and in such situations, a nourishing hair mask can be applied once a week to restore moisture and improve hair texture. Frequent use of heat styling tools like straighteners, hair wavers, etc. should be avoided as these can further damage your hair.
● Always use a hair serum after cleansing your hair, as these products seal the hair cuticles, reduce frizz and add a healthy shine to your hair. Incorporate serums into your hair care routine to fight frizz and maintain smooth, shiny hair. Trim your hair regularly to promote healthy hair growth and get rid of split ends.
