The tradition of Lalbagcha Raja began in 1934, when Koli fishermen and local traders of Lalbag (then called Giringa) lost their market due to industrial changes. He promised to establish Lord Ganesha in gratitude after restoring his market. With the support of community leaders and zamindar Rajbai Tayibali, a plot of land was allotted, and on September 12, 1934, the first Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav was celebrated – laying the foundation for what the iconic Lalbuga Raja would be.
