Munjya Movie Review | Munjya: An interesting mix of humor and horror that is refreshing

Indian audiences love horror comedies. These films take them on a journey of laughter and wonder. This unique genre of films offers the audience a fascinating journey between two worlds, where they experience fear and wonder amidst laughter.

Maddock Films began building its own Supernatural universe with the film Stree. After that, characters like Ruhi, Bhedia were added and now this universe got a new demon named Munjya. The film has a certain treasure trove of past, horror and witty humour, which keeps the audience engaged.

The story of the film starts from 1952. A Brahmin boy is deeply in love with a girl named Munni. But his love was not accepted by his family members. When his mother finds out about this, she forces him to attend a formal ceremony. To prove his love for Munni, the boy tries to perform a dangerous ritual in the forest but it all backfires resulting in his death. His family buries him under the same tree where the ceremony took place.

The story fast-forwards and cuts to present-day Pune, where Bittu (Abhay Verma), a reserved cosmetology student, lives with his mother Pammi (Mona Singh) and grandmother. Bittu has feelings for Bela (Sharvari), but struggles to express them. In the midst of a family wedding, long-hidden secrets resurface, particularly about Chetuk-bari, the place where Munjya originated.

After this, Bittu learns a secret that Daadi is the girl who turned her brother into an evil spirit, Munjya. Now Bittu must confront Munjya and stop him, resulting in the death of his grandmother. Now Munjya makes Bela his prey, so Bittu has to find Munni. Munni is none other than Bela’s grandmother. How Bittu rescues Bela from Munje’s clutches, with the help of a vagrant, weaves the story.

Aditya Sarpotdar’s direction in the film is remarkable. The story of the film is new and screenwriters Yogesh Chandekar and Niren Bhatt have kept this horror comedy very different. There is a lot of novelty in this film which the audience may not have seen before.

The cast of the film has carried the film completely on their shoulders. All have shown a very commendable performance. Abhay Varma will win everyone’s heart as Bittu. Sharwari has also proved that she is going to go far in the industry. Everyone will love Mona Singh’s acting.

The CGI of this film has given the audience a different and amazing visual experience. The background score of the film gives the film a unique feel for its sensitive moments while connecting the audience with the story.
