According to the Drink Panchang, Shardia Navratri, celebrated in the Chandra month of Ashwin (September -October), is considered the most important in four Navaratris, Magha (Winter), Chaitra (Vasant), Ashra (Monsoon), and Sharadia (Sharadia).

The first day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, which means “daughter of mountain” (Shell Earth Mountain in Sanskrit).
Drick Panchang says: “After self-forgotten as Goddess Sati, Goddess Parvati was born as the daughter of Lord Himalayas. In Sanskrit, ‘Shail’ means mountain, and thus the goddess was known as the daughter of the mountain, Shellputry.”
She is also called Hemavati and Parvati, and like her avatar as Sati, she is married to Lord Shiva. Due to her major importance, Maa Shailputri is first worshiped in the nine forms of Durga.
