Grammy-winning rapper Nelly will no longer be prosecuted over ecstasy possession claims. The prosecutor’s office attributed the dismissal to limited facts.
Neely, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II, has been released from prison following his August arrest on charges of possession of the drug Ecstasy. Prosecutors are reportedly not filing any charges against the rapper.
“We do not believe the facts in this case warrant issuing charges,” St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office Chris King told TMZ Hip Hop on Wednesday, November 13. Meanwhile, the “Country Grammar” rapper’s attorney Scott Rosenblum reported that after a “fair and impartial review of the evidence”, prosecuting attorney Wesley Bell and his office decided not to file any charges.

Why was Nelly arrested?
The Grammy-winning musician was arrested on the morning of August 7, the same day he won multiple jackpots at the Hollywood Casino and Hotel in Maryland Heights, Missouri. An officer assigned to the casino tells Neely that a search warrant is obtained when someone wins a certain amount of money. Although Neely’s attorney said no such warrant was needed, a deeper investigation into the case revealed that a judge had issued a warrant in December that was based on a 2018 citation for driving without proof of insurance.
The warrant ultimately led to the trooper allegedly finding four ecstasy pills in Neely’s possession and subsequently arresting her. As far as the insurance issue is concerned, Rosenblum said the charge was resolved after his client turned over proof that he had insurance.
This is a developing story.
