Netflix hosted a special pre-release screening The Great Indian Kapil Show (Independence Day Special Episode) Visually impaired for the community. In collaboration with the National Association for the Blind, Mumbai, the screening, held at Netflix India Office in Mumbai, was enabled with the underlying audio details, ensuring that the episode can be fully experienced by all.
Tukaram Munde, IAS (Secretary, Divyang Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra), and Prakash Magdam, IIS (Managing Director, National Film Development Corporation of India) were in attendance at the screening. The actors of the show included a surprise to celebrate the occasion and a curated talent showcase – Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda and Archana Purana Singh for a surprise and a curated talent showcase.

Netflix has been creating audio details for its content since 2015 globally. Today, all Netflix original titles come with underlying audio details, a voiceover that describes major visual elements such as facial expressions, physical activities, settings and visual changes. This makes the story more accessible to the blind or less vision audience.
The platform has been enabled with additional accessibility features and plug-in-screen reader compatibility, adaptable subtitle and supporting hearing systems to ensure that entertainment can be enjoyed by all without any obstruction.
Sharing his views on the initiative, Kapil Sharma, actor and host The Great Indian Kapil Show“As artists, there is nothing more beneficial than knowing their work, it can reach more hearts. Being part of this special screening, where every joke, every moment can be felt and experienced equally, there was a beautiful reminder of what we do.”
National Association for the Blind General Secretary Dr. Vimli Kumar Dengla said, “Entertainment should be for everyone, and when platforms like Netflix are given priority to accessibility, it opens a world of entertainment for our community. Audio description is more than a feature; we really appreciate this cooperation and expect many more such initiatives in the future.”

Speaking about the initiative, Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India, said, “The story tell is only fulfilled when everyone has the opportunity to be a part of it. In Netflix, in Netflix, we are deepened to make our content more accessible. All our titles are also available with audio details, and to see an event in every way.”
