‘Freaky Friday 2’ officially begins filming on Monday, and the Colemans are back on set!
Swirling rumors of a heartwarming feel-good Disney movie starring the OG mother-daughter duo of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have finally turned into reality. The beloved partnership that shaped the 2003 fan-favorite comedy was spotted on set again as Disney dropped the curtain for the first time on the behind-the-scenes of the film’s production.
According to Variety, Lohan and Curtis, who will return as Anna and Tess Coleman, are not the only original cast members in the official sequel, which will hit theaters in 2025.
Who is returning in Freaky Friday 2?
Along with the beloved leading duo, other returning cast members include Mark Hammon (as Ryan), Chad Michael Murray (as Jake), Haley Hudson (as Peg), Christina Vidal Mitchell (as Maggie), Lucille Soong (as Pei-Pei’s mother), Rosalind Chao (as Pei-Pei) and Stephen Tobolowsky (as Mr. Bates).

Joining the OG stars of the 2003 film, which grossed $160 million in theaters worldwide, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, lead star of Netflix’s hit series Never Have I Ever, is also included in the star lineup. In addition, Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto and Sophia Hammons are also listed as new cast members. Nisha Ganatra (The High Note, Late Night) is sitting in the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel scheduled for next year, while Mark Waters directed the previous film.
Do we have a release date for Freaky Friday 2?
No firm date has been set for the sequel. However, Disney’s latest social media teaser has confirmed that the film will release in theaters in 2025, while initial reports said it would premiere only on Disney+.
“Coleman is back and will be in theaters in 2025! The Freaky Friday sequel is now in production!” Disney Studios shared on x/Twitter on Monday.
