Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek’s Viral Run-In: Lip Reader, Body Language Expert Decode Tense Exchange

Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek share an apparently tense moment during Paris Fashion Week. A clip from the star-studded event featuring the two actresses with Katy Perry recently went viral on social media. In view of the growing speculation about their alleged feud, a lip reader and a body language expert have decoded their conversation.

Lip reader reveals what Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek said to each other in viral clip

Speaking to Page Six, UK-based expert witness and forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman claimed that Hayek told Kidman, “Let’s turn here.” To this the Big Little Lies actress said, “Hey, I’m fine, I’m good. There, that’s enough, that’s okay.”

However, the Bandidas actress said, “We have to…” before putting her arm around the Teenage Dream singer. Hayek then led Perry toward the photographers, saying, “It’s OK, it’s OK.”

Body language expert shares her version of the controversy

Body language expert Judy James shared her interpretation of the tense exchange, calling the moment a “Devil Wears Prada lesson in status signals.” “The Paris Fashion Week shows are a hot-mess combo of rarified, super-A-list air and the sweaty lower levels of the rugby scrum,” James told the Daily Mail.

“Nicole happily poses with her friend Salma, placing a gentle hand on her shoulders while keeping her torso apart. The problem probably first arises when Nicole then turns to have a more personal-looking friendly conversation with Salma (covering her face from the camera with her hair), who is still working on the pose,” James said.

The expert further said that another clip showed that “Salma was clearly trying to move Nicole around and away from her, using an arm and a hand that could not possibly be touching, but directive. And could have been seen or felt as a little better.” James continued, “Nicole appears to push the hand away, suggesting that the mimicked touch violates some kind of tacit etiquette, as is possible ‘I choose when or where I go.'”
