The Oscar winner discusses the parameters of fashion in the 90s in a new documentary series. Kidman, considered one of the brightest young stars of the 1990s, was in the front row to wear a dress designed by designer John Galliano to the 1997 Oscars.

When Galliano approached her, the “Hours” actor recalled that she had a lot on her mind about her body image and how she felt about the dress that was made especially for her.

What did Nicole say?

“Can you believe it?” Kidman said, “My whole life, I wanted to be 5’2″ and curvy. And suddenly, being 5’11” and totally skinny and flat-chested was like, ‘Great, we can dress you.'”

Kidman also spoke about how much she respects those who have made their mark in the fashion industry. “I grew up watching Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn and Grace Kelly, all of these women were styled closely by the designers they were associated with,” Kidman said.

‘I would be teased’

She expressed her thoughts, saying, “They just loved fashion. So I remember thinking, But surely, this should be brought to Hollywood now, and we should be wearing things made in these beautiful little salons in Paris. Because that’s what they used to do, so why aren’t we still doing it?”

“I mean, I was a red-haired, fair-skinned girl who was about 5’11” at 14, Kidman said, recalling the night she wore the dress designed by Galliano.

“I used to get teased, and it wasn’t nice. So every time I was given access to that whole world, you felt like you were a little girl who was given the opportunity to step into this kind of fantasy world,” she said, reports People.
