Nihar Palwe’s short film directly selected between 8 competitions, set for ear premiere

New Delhi: Nihar Palve’s short film “The Storm, The Calli, The Madnes, The Magic” has officially been selected as one of the top eight films globally in the 8 competition directly, after which its premiere will be premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. According to a press release, the film will premiere in the Cinema Olympia on May 19 during the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, followed by a world premiere at BFI Imax in London on 24 May.

Strait 8 is a UK-based filmmaking challenge, where participants should shoot a film on a single super 8 mm cartridge, which has been fully edited, in which sound has done blind and no post-production. Among the hundreds of entries from all over the world, only the top 8 has been selected for the premiere in the ear, the release said.

“The Storm, The Calum, The Magnes, The Magic”, the shooting was made on a role of the 8 mm film, Harakat Studio. It has Prit Kamani and Aditi Sandhya Sharma and its music is Adith Anande.

The producers said that this is the first time in the 25 years of the competition that an Indian film has made it directly in the top 8 of 8 since its inception.

The story of the short film, completely shot in sequence without any post production, captures the subjects of chaos, peace and artistic surrender.

Palve, who also running desi cut products, said in a statement, “This is a very big moment, not only personally, but for the whole of Indian cinema. This is an honor for representing the country on such an unfolded, global stage.”

Scored a short film without watching the same frame, was a challenging experience for Anande.

He said, “The composition without the scene was terrible at first, but once I bowed down to the unknown, it became deeply emotional. I had to realize what the film could be, could not see it,” he said.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival closed on 13 May and will end on 24 May.
