New Delhi:
In recent times, talks about national security and terrorism have increased vigorously – Pahgam attacks, Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s aggressive moves, strong vengeance of India, the declaration of ceasefire and then violated it by Pakistan. Through all this, a continuity has been longer: the courage and flexibility of the Indian armed forces.
It is in such moments that we are reminded of real heroes – and the family behind them. For example, actress Nimrat Kaur knows all this well. She is the daughter of the late Major Bhupendra Singh, who is a brave army officer who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Kashmir in 1994.
In an old interview with Bombay TimesNimrat Kaur talked about her father and how he was killed by terrorists. He said, “He (Major Bhupendra Singh) was a young army chief, an engineer posted on the army border streets at a place called Verinag.”
The actress shared that during those days, Kashmir was not considered a family station. So when his father was stationed there, Nimrat and his family were living in Patiala.
“We were on our winter leave in January 1994 and went to meet our father in Kashmir when Hizb-ul-Mujahideen kidnapped him from his place of work and after seven days, finished him,” Nimrat Kaur said.
Sharing the heartbreaking cause behind his father’s murder, Nimrat Kaur revealed that the terrorists had made some “ridiculous demands” – asking for the release of some individuals – who was true to his father, his duty, refused to follow.
Nimrat Kaur shared, “He (Major Bhupinder Singh) was just 44 years old. When he died. We got the news and he flew back to Delhi with his body and I first saw his body in Delhi for the first time. We went to Noida again and lived with my maternal grandmother for a few months and my mother went out and we left and we left and we left and we left and we left and we left and we left and we left and we left and we went out We went out and we went out and we went out and we went out and we went out and we went out with our savings) and we went out and we went out and we went out and we went out) and we went out) and we went out and we went out and we went out and we went out)
The actress also shared that after the martyrdom of her father, the government allotted a piece of land to her family in Rajasthan. As a tribute to his bravery, Major Bhupendra Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra – one of the highest valor awards in India.
On the work front, Nimrat Kaur was last seen Sky forceDirected by Sandeep Kevalani and Abhishek Anil Kapoor. The film also featured Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahria and Sara Ali Khan in brilliant roles.
