1972 film by Ramesh Sippy Sita and Geeta It was a blockbuster Bollywood film. Be it the cast or the dialogues, the film ticked all the boxes. But did you know that Hema Malini was not his first choice for this film? We are not joking here. The director himself has revealed this. Ramesh Sippy also said that he wanted to cast Mumtaz in this film. Sita and GeetaSpeaking on The Invincibles Series Season 2 with Arbaaz Khan, he said, “I worked with him [Hema Malini] She worked in Andaz and she was very interested in it, so you like people who want to be a part of the film. When we decided to make it, it felt like Mumtaz would probably be the right person for it at that time. She had a lot of commitments and I didn’t want to wait.”

Ramesh Sippy revealed how the dynamic writer duo Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) reacted when he suggested Hema Malini’s name for the film. The filmmaker said they did not agree. “So, I asked Hema [Malini] And Salim-Javed asked me, ‘Are you sure? Does she have the personality to play Geeta because Sita’s character is still okay?’”

Sita and Geeta The film also stars Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Manorama, Roopesh Kumar, Satyen Kappu, Honey Irani and Pratima Devi. The story revolves around twin sisters who were separated at birth. Things turn for the better after they are inadvertently swapped.

Ramesh Sippy and Hema Malini have also worked together in the cult classic Sholay. The film also featured the superhit jodi – Amitabh Bachchan (Jai) and Dharmendra (Veeru). Some time back, Ramesh Sippy revealed how the makers decided to cast Big B and Dharmendra for the film. “The colours and characters came into existence later but the basic story was already there. Except that the two boys (Jai and Veeru) were from the army and Sanjeev Kumar’s role of Thakur was that of an army officer, which was changed to a police officer. The basic idea was about two young boys (Jai and Veeru) who are on the run, their love for adventure and how they get involved in this emotional story of Thakur. All the characters came up one by one. As we kept discussing and delving further into the script, it took on a life of its own,” he told PTI.
