Adnan Sami expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for “nominating” him for the Padma Awards Committee.
Mumbai: On the eve of Republic Day, the Center announced the Padma Awards 2025, conferring the highest civilian honors on 139 people including seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri.
Hours after the list of award winners was unveiled on Saturday evening, singer Adnan Sami took to his Instagram and thanked all the winners. He also revealed that he has been a part of the “Padma Awards Committee” this year.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “nominating him for the Padma Awards Committee”, Adnan Sami wrote, “I am extremely grateful to the honorable Prime Minister Modi ji for nominating me for the prestigious Padma Awards Committee. It is a great privilege to serve with distinguished members and be inspired by the remarkable stories of award winners from diverse walks of life.
The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted every year by the Prime Minister. The Padma Awards Committee is headed by the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, Secretary to the President, and four to six eminent persons as members. The recommendations of the committee are presented to the Prime Minister and the President of India for approval.
The awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of a higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service).
Congratulating all the PADWA award winners, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India is proud to honor and celebrate their extraordinary achievements. Their dedication and perseverance is truly inspiring. Each award winner is a testament to hard work, passion and innovation. He has positively influenced countless lives. He teaches us the value of striving for excellence and serving the society selflessly.”
The list of Padma Bhushan award winners includes Kannada actor Ananth Nag, actor Jatin Goswami, Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, Tamil star S Ajith Kumar, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actress Shobana Chandrakumar. Veteran ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas is also being honored posthumously with Padma Bhushan.
Famous sculptor Advait Charan Gadanyak, calligraphy artist Achut Ramchandra Palav, Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, comedian and actor Ashok Laxman Saraf, classical vocal Ashwini Bhid Dehpandey, Barry Godframe. Datchanamoorthy, Pandi Ram Mandvi, Grammy-winning musician Ricky Cage, are among those being honored with the Padma Shri.
The names also include Vasudo Kamath, Velu Asan and Venkappa Ambaji Sugatekar.
These awards are given by the President of India at formal functions usually held at Rashtrapati Bhavan around March/April every year.
