Pakistani singer Hania Aslam dies of heart attack; Tributes paid to Coke Studio singer who sang for Alia Bhatt

Hania Aslam, famous for Pakistani band Zeb-Hania, passed away on Sunday, August 11. Band member Zeb Bangash confirmed the news of her death.

Pakistani musician Hania Aslam, who was one half of Zeb-Hania, died of a heart attack at the age of 39. The news of her death was first reported by her cousin and former band member Zeb Bangash on Instagram. She sang for Alia Bhatt’s 2014 film Highway. Hania was a famous singer in the Pakistani music industry. She founded the popular band Zeb and Hania with Zeb Bangash, which became the first Pakistani female band. She gained widespread recognition with her rendition of Chal Diye on Coke Studio Pakistan. In 2014, she moved to Canada to pursue a solo career in music.

Zeb and Haniya have also worked with Indian artists, most notably with AR Rahman for the song Sooha Saha from the 2014 film Highway. The song marked Alia Bhatt’s singing debut.

Confirming the news of her death, Zeb shared several photos of Hania on his Instagram with a guitar, singing and making music. In the caption, he simply wrote: “Hanini (stardust emoticon).”

Reactions from fans

Reacting to the post, singer and songwriter Swanand Kirkire commented, “WTF… what happened? OMG” He later wrote a note on his ex’s account and said, “My dear friend Hania Aslam (from Zeb and Hania) has left us. She had a cardiac arrest. Dear Hania, rest in peace.”

Many fans reacted to the sad news and shared their condolences in the comments section of Zeb’s post. One fan commented, “Thank you for the music and the memories. My condolences. May she rest in peace, and love and hugs to you, Zeb.” Another fan said, “Lost for words.. just hoping she’s singing with the angels.” Another added, “Her music will live on forever! Sending deepest condolences.” “May she rest in eternal peace,” another fan added.
