Filmmaker Madhura Pandit Jasraj, wife of late musician Pandit Jasraj, died in Mumbai on Wednesday morning due to age-related ailments. She was 86.
Family spokesperson Pritam Sharma said the last rites would be performed in the evening at Mumbai’s Oshiwara crematorium.
Madhura was the daughter of noted filmmaker V Shantaram. She married music maestro Pandit Jasraj in 1962. They have two children – music director Sharang Dev Pandit and TV personality Durga Jasraj.
Having donned multiple hats in her career as a director, producer and writer, Madhura, apart from directing plays and films, has also penned several books, including a biography of her father – V Shantaram: The Man Who Changed Indian Cinema.
In 2010, Madhura created history by directing the Marathi film ‘Aai Tujhe Ashirwad’ as she became the oldest debut director of a feature film, for which her name was entered in the Limca Book of Records.
This film included songs by Pandit Jasraj.
She has also directed a short film ‘Sangeet Martand Jasraj’ based on her husband Pandit Jasraj.
Padma Vibhushan awardee Pandit Jasraj passed away in 2020 at the age of 90.
