‘Parashakti’ cleared at last minute: CBFC gives U/A certificate before release

Chennai: The Central Board of Film Certification on Friday approved the release of director Sudha Kongara’s eagerly awaited upcoming period film ‘Parasakthi’, starring actors Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in the lead roles, to be released with a U/A certificate, much to the delight of fans and film lovers.

Theater owners and distributors have heaved a sigh of relief with the Censor Board’s approval. It is noteworthy that the censor certificate comes just a day before the release of the film. The film is scheduled to release on screens on January 10. It is worth noting that the film was originally scheduled to release on January 14, but its makers decided to advance it to January 10.

The trailer released by the makers starts with Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan fighting each other on top of a moving train. The story we are shown is from 1964. Sivakarthikeyan appears to be working as an engine driver in the Railways. His Hindi co-driver keeps insisting that he speak in Hindi, to which Sivakarthikeyan is seen saying in broken Hindi, “When a Madrasi goes to Delhi, he will speak in Hindi. Similarly, when a Hindi person comes to Madurai, he should speak in Tamil.”

The trailer shows Sivakarthikeyan having a close relationship with Atharvaa, who appears to be his younger brother. The character of Sreeleela appears to be a news reader in Tamil. However, her presence irritates her superior, who is angry that she has come through recommendation.

It is under these circumstances that the news comes that a new law is to be passed to make Hindi the official language of all the states of the country. An old woman, who appears to be the protagonist’s grandmother, says, “I have studied till eighth grade, I have been made illiterate.”

Younger brother Atharva is angry that his elder brother Sivakarthikeyan is earning money by working under the central government which is imposing Hindi.

Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan is seen trying to learn Hindi. He insists Sreeleela to teach him Hindi and she keeps making fun of him for being shabby.

The story then takes a serious turn, as shown in the trailer. Atharva joins those protesting against the imposition of Hindi and Ravi Mohan, a ruthless officer sent from Delhi to suppress the protesters and crush the resistance, arrives on the scene. Sivakarthikeyan is initially seen scolding his brother. However, as those in power take cruel and inhumane measures, Sivakarthikeyan finds himself eventually leading a movement of resistance, consisting mainly of college students…

The film has raised huge expectations among both fans and film lovers.

It can be recalled that the first schedule of ‘Parasakthi’ took place in Madurai, while the unit went to Sri Lanka for the second schedule of the film. The event was the third in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu.

‘Parashakthi’, which is being tentatively called #SK25 as it is Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film, has music by GV Prakash and cinematography by veteran cameraman Ravi K Chandran. The film’s stunts are by Supreme Sundar.
