Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine Az Light’ and ‘Santosh’ actor Shahna Goswami Bag Asian Film Awar

Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine Az Light”, “Santosh” star Shahna Goswami and its director Sandhya Suri won the top honors at the Asian Film Awards 2025.

The 18th edition of the awards took place on Sunday at the XIQU center in West Kovaloon Cultural District, Hong Kong.

The Asian Film Awards shared the list of winners on its official website.

“We all imagine …” went to win the best film award. It was in competition with “Black Dog” (China), “Axuhuma” (South Korea), “Teki cometh” (Japan) and “Twilight of the Warriors: Walded Inn” (Hong Kong).

Kapadia, who won the Grand Prix Award for “All We Imagine …” at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, said it was a special feeling to be honored for his film in “Amazing place for cinema” like Hong Kong.

“We have such amazing tasks emanating from Asia and we are proud to be a part of that community. And, especially here, because the community is celebrated and I think it is really important for us to see all cinema from Asia and to be a part of it … It was already special to be specially nominated. It is very good to win this award.”

“All V Imagine …”, an official India-French co-building, launched the history chart as the first Indian title from India to win the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

Goswami was named Best Actress for her role in “Santosh”, who also won the Suri the Trophy of Best New Director.

Working on “Santosh” was a pleasant journey, the actor said.

“The challenging part was to believe that I could play that part, because I was very nervous about playing and feeling the character as I was acting. And I didn’t want it to feel as if I was acting, I wanted it to feel real …

Goswami said, “You always have this imposter syndrome. Such things help (trophy) when you realize that ‘Oh maybe you have not done such a bad thing.’

‘Santosh “revolves around a new widow housewife (Goswami) as she has inherited her late husband’s job as a police constable and gets involved in the investigation into the murder of a young girl. It is a joint production of India, United Kingdom, France, Germany.

Other nominees in the best actress category were: Kani Kusuri (“All V V Imagine …”), Sylvia Chang (“Daughter’s Daughter”), Kavai Yumi (“Namibia’s desert”), and Kim Go-Yun (“Ishuma”).

Suri, a British-Indian filmmaker, Basted Yamanaka Yoko (“Namibia’s desert”), Sora Neo (“Happy Neo”), Dong Zizian (“My Friend A Daily”), and Troung Min Quu (“VIET and Name”) in the best new directors category.
