One still from ‘Pencili’
Humor in free flow can turn into experiences worth seating, even with imperfect time, even poorly written films. But, when humor is forced, with an attempt to laugh painfully in every other scene, it can also bring down a film with a decent idea. In Sreejith Babu’s first film PenciliThe attempts to make comedy, except for some scenes written by Jethu Madhavan, are similar to the attempts to push the last bit of toothpaste out of a nearby tube.

Writing was not really one of Jithu Madhavan’s strong points InguinalWhich was mainly converted into a large hit due to the unrestrained, over-the-top performance of Fahd Fasil. Panicily is designed in such a way that almost every character is at some point required to display over-the-top behavior, even when it does not naturally come to them. The result is a film that struggles to take off, and is confused about what he really wants to say.
‘Penkili’ (Malayalam)
Director: Sreejith Babu
Mold: Anaswara Rajan, Sojin Gopu
Run-time: 139 minutes
Story: Suku leaves a mental health disorder to get out of a crisis while Sheeba runs away from home and is caught to run away from a situation. When their world collides, all hells become loose.
Pencili is built on a landscape where the world of two strange characters collides. Suku Sujith Kumar (Sajin Gopu) removes mental health disorders to get out of a crisis while Sheeba (Anaswara Rajan) runs away from her house and is caught. Suku, which essentially pronounces cheese romantic lines, and Sheeba, who is ready to live with only one with his position, is bound to like each other. But when both the characters meet half the path in the film, all the hells become loose.
A film is not taking itself seriously, when humor works, but when it is flat most of the time, the film does not have a leg to stand, as it happens PenciliThe only bits working include Suku and his father (Abu Salim, shedding his evergreen goon image), his sidekick (Roshan Shanavas) and his neighbor Suma (Jisma). Most of them are accidental humor instead of comedy, which is an integral part of the story. This is not surprising, given the fact that it is a haphazard story that really does not go anywhere.

The entire film gives an impression of the thing that quickly ended without homework. A good part of this attempt is just a song, ‘Heart Attack’, which went viral and ensured some early interest in the film. Even the background score of Justin Varghese struggles to fill the gapping hole in the screenplay. Pencili Suddenly arcs and dead-end conditions are filled with lazy written characters which did not bring any enthusiasm or expectation. Even the Lowerbro, the Paneer Pulp Fiction of the subject, which earned the catch of ‘Pencili’, was more heft than the film.
Pencili is currently running in theaters
