Maddock Films further expands its horror-comedy universe with Thama. The film not only offers horror and thrills, but also shows the depth of emotions and relationships between the characters. Director Aditya Sarpotdar weaves the story in such a way that there is a balance of horror, fantasy, comedy and romance.
The story begins with Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a small town journalist. In an unexpected turn of events, he meets Tadka (Rashmika Mandana), an age-old and powerful Betal. The story gradually unravels the mystery of Tadka and her powers, creating thrill and curiosity for both Alok and the audience.
The first half of the film focuses on domestic humor and family sentiments. Paresh Rawal shows excellent comic timing as Alok’s father, while Geeta Aggarwal portrays the stability and love of the family as the mother. A balance between wilderness and supernatural danger is maintained in these scenes.
After the interval, the story picks up full speed. Alok’s transformation and his new amazing powers take the audience to thrilling heights. His fight with Bhedia (Varun Dhawan) is technically impressive and visually appealing. The presence of Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) adds depth and gravity to the story, and hints of Raktabij and Sarakta foretell the coming crisis.
The supporting characters have also strengthened the film. Elvis’ portrayal of Satyaraj balances humor and mystery, while Abhishek Banerjee and Varun Dhawan’s cameos add a natural twist to the story. Nora Fatehi’s cameo is not just about glamour, but connects the universe emotionally to Series 2.
The film’s background score and VFX perfectly support the story. The jungle, beetle and wolf scenes are technically correct and appealing to the audience. The songs are part of the story, and none of the songs are used solely for cosmetic purposes.
The central theme of Thama is the balance of love, morality and human emotions. Alok’s revival through Tadka raises moral and philosophical questions with a romantic twist. The film shows the balance between life, immortality, myth and humanity. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandana have shown natural and effective reactions in the characters, while Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have given strength and seriousness to the story.
Overall, Thama is a solid and detailed chapter in the horror universe of Maddock films. The film not only gives scares and thrills but also satisfies the audience emotionally and technically. Watching it with family and friends on the occasion of Diwali will be a wise and entertaining decision.
