Mumbai: Playback singer Sonu Nigam has issued an explanation in the light of allegations against him to make stimulating statements, and Kannadigas’ feelings.
It comes after being filed against the singer at the Alalli police station in Bangalore. On 25 April and 26 April, during the program at East Point College, it is reported that a student requested Sonu Nigam to sing Kannada songs.
Responding to the same during his performance, the singer made an objectionable statement stating, “Kannada, Kannada, Kannada, that is why the incident took place in Pahgam”, as he mentioned the recent terrorist attacks that took place in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed.
Sonu took his Instagram on his behalf on Saturday, and issued an explanation as he said that there were only 3-4 fringe elements in the crowd, and other people in the audience were very respectable. He said that such people need to be tightly dealt.
He said in the video, “There were only 4-5 goons who were screaming. In fact, thousands of people were stopping them. I remember the girls were shouting at them, telling them, ‘don’t bother the scene’. It was very important to remind them when the pants were removed in Pahgam, it was not asked that there is no language. Everywhere there is no such bad people”.
“But it is very important to remind them that you cannot allow them to threaten to sing. I have intended to perform an hour set of my songs in Kannada language. It is very important to stop people who excite people. Please there were not only 4-5 boys on that day.
Meanwhile, the complaint filed against the singer takes into account 352 (1), 352 (2), and 353 of the Indian Justice (BNS), which intentionally deal with insults with the intention of peace and attacks or criminal forces to know a public servant.
The complaint alleged that the singer added a simple request to sing the Kannada song for a terrorist Act, insulting the Kannadiga community and equaled his cultural pride and linguistic identity with violence and intolerance.
