New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid emotional tribute to famous folk singer Sharda Sinha on her first death anniversary.
On his official X handle, PM Modi remembered his musical legacy and association with the art and culture of Bihar.
He wrote in X Post, “A heartfelt tribute to Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha ji on her first death anniversary. She gave a new identity to the art and culture of Bihar through folk songs, for which she will always be remembered. Her melodious songs associated with the great festival Chhath will always remain in the hearts of people.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also paid tribute to late Sharda Sinha.
CM wrote, “The melodious songs sung by Smt. Sharda Sinha ji in her melodious voice during the Chhath festival still resonate throughout Bihar and all parts of the country. Her memories will always remain in the land of Bihar, the music world and among music lovers.”
Tributes were paid to the memory of late Sharda Sinha, who was awarded Bihar Kokila, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

Sharda Sinha, popularly known as “Bihar Kokila” among millions of her fans for her melodious presentation of folk music, died on the evening of November 5 during treatment for septicemia at AIIMS, Delhi.
His mortal remains were brought from Delhi to Patna, where he was cremated with full state honours.

Sharda’s last rites were performed at the same place where her father was cremated in Patna, her family had revealed at the time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a national tribute, and described Sinha’s death as an “irreparable loss” to the music industry. He appreciated his immense contribution to the Bhojpuri and Maithili folk music genres, especially his deeply moving contributions. Chhath songs, which are a major part of the annual Chhath Puja celebrations.
“The echo of his melodious songs will always remain,” the Prime Minister said in a statement expressing his condolences.
