District Police Chief (Kochi City) Puta Vimaladitya said that the investigation into the rape case registered against Malayalam rapper and song writer Hirandas Murali is in the initial stage and has not been issued a notice yet.
Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Thursday (August 7, 2025), Mr. Vimalditya said that the allegations of financial transactions are also being investigated and the relevant sections will be implemented in the event that the police should be caught any evidence to certify them.
“The petitioner has said that some people knew about the incidents. We will verify it with the persons concerned and record their statements. Further action will be taken accordingly,” said Mr. Vimaladitya.
The throughout the police registered a case against Vedan after the petitioner, a young doctor approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kochi City) with a complaint that he was sexually abused on July 30 on the promise of marriage. The police registered the case after recording the statement of the petitioner.
The leading incidents for the complaint took place a few years ago. The case was registered by the Thrikkakara police, as it was mentioned as one of the places where the marriage promise was allegedly sexually abused.
Allegedly, the petitioner came forward with the complaint when he came to another woman’s account, which he had similar experiences with Vedan allegedly faced.
Vedan has faced allegations of sexual abuse in the past during the height of the ‘#MeToo’ movement.
The Hill Palace police in Kochi on April 28, 2025 arrested Vedan along with eight other friends along with six gram of ganja from their apartment near Wettila in Kochi. While he was released on bail in the case, he was immediately arrested by the Forest Department when he was found to be a late-dinner pendant. He claimed that it was gifted to him by a fan. He was later released on bail in that case.
Since then, he had run-in with BJP and Sangh Parivar organizations after a BJP councilor in the Palakkad municipality, lodging a complaint against Vedan alleging that his music defamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promoted caste divisions.
