Ernakulam Central Police in Kerala is keeping a close watch on the social media handles of actor Honey Rose in the wake of a complaint of sexually-derogatory comments on his social media posts. The police also recorded the statement of the actor who reached the police station on Monday (January 6, 2025).
Police have so far arrested one of the 30 accused named in the actor’s complaint. The arrested man, identified as Shaji, 60, of Kumbalam, was released on interim bail by a court on Monday and directed to appear again on Tuesday.
The case has been registered under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Indian Justice Code and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act. The charges are non-bailable.
“We are closely monitoring the social media handles of the actor. Some comments have been issued in view of his complaint. We are trying to recover them. We will take immediate action against any such comments appearing in the comments section of her social media handles,” police sources said.
Shortly after her arrest, Ms Rose, in a Facebook post, “declared war” against all those who engage in sexual harassment on social media on behalf of all women who have gone through the same ordeal as her. She said that she had not attended any public event wearing any attire not permitted by the Indian legal system. “I am not responsible for individuals who create their own legal system based on my views,” the post reads.
“I don’t mind being made fun of or given constructive criticism about my appearance or clothing. But reasonable restrictions on such references and gestures should be maintained. Therefore, I will pursue anyone who accuses me of sexual harassment using all protections given to women under the Indian Justice Code,” the post said.
AMMA gave support
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has also condemned the social media attack targeting Ms Rose and promised her full support.
Ms Rose said in her post on Sunday that a man, whom she did not name, was following her and trying to humiliate her through gestures after she declined the man’s invitation to attend some events. Was doing. From then on, the person concerned, as if in revenge, attended functions to which he was invited. They complained that the man also spoke without respect for women.
The actor had filed a police complaint against the comments made on this post.
