Singer Prateek Kuhad believes that while democratisation is good, anyone can make music today, making it ‘unpredictable’.
Social media has changed the music industry forever across the world. And while it has some advantages, it also has some disadvantages, and Prateek Kuhad has recognized that.
When talking to him about what is happening today he says, “I think today is a good and bad time for music in some ways.”
He feels art has become more “democratised” than ever before, “It’s easier to make art today, even filmmaking is cheaper than ever. It has made art accessible to everyone now. People who had no knowledge like a child living in a village in India or Africa… couldn’t listen to music or watch films like they do today. You get free inspiration, education and tools to make it.”
And this actually has a downside too, according to Kuhad, who is currently busy bringing his Silhouettes Tour to India later this year, “Almost anyone can become an artist now. It’s very unpredictable and competitive. I don’t mean ‘competition’, I mean saturation. It has brought homogeneity to music. There’s so much music out there. Like everything in life, it has its good and bad aspects. Overall, I think it’s good that everyone has access to art in an unprecedented way.”
