New Delhi:
Actor Pratik Gandhi, who is ready to bring the iconic social reformer Jyotiro Phule to life, shared how to portray the mythological figures has been both a rewarding and transformative experience for him.
The actor, who is ready for his next release, FuleRevealed that Jyotoro Phule’s step into shoes not only challenged him as an artist, but also left a permanent impact on his personal approach and understanding of social change. Pratik told IANS, “It was difficult in many ways, but it was also incredibly rewarding. Jyotiro Phule’s life and the work he did is so deep that it seems almost real to portray her. When you talk about her life, it often seems like a fairy tale, this person who did a lot of obstacles.
“His greatest strength was his faith in himself and he had courage to stand against social norms. When we started working on this role, it was a transformative process for me. The more I came to the character, the more I felt his essence. The challenge was that when I portrayed his works, he did justice for the effect he did.”
Despite being a Gujarati, when asked about playing the Maharashtrian character, Pratik Gandhi admitted that it was actually a challenging yet rich experience. He mentioned, “It was not as difficult as it may appear. The cultures of Gujarat and Maharashtra are quite similar, and historically, they were once part of the same Bombay province. Language obstruction was minimal because I think I had to pay attention to Marathi, although I had not met with Marathi characters, which I had no faith.”
The film directed by Anant Mahadevan also includes Patilekha as Savitribai Phule. It has been slated to release in theaters on the 197th birth anniversary of Mahatma Phule on 11 April.
