Pratik Gandhi Phule release delay in release: ‘These are the reasons that you do not have …’

Mumbai: Actor Pratik Gandhi expressed his disappointment over the postponement of ‘Phule’ amid controversies, stating that he hoped that the film would be released on its original date on April 11, working with the 197th birth anniversary.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the manufacturers ‘U’ certificates on 7 April and asked them to make a series of amendments, with the removal of conditions like ‘Mangal’, ‘Mahar’ and ‘muscular’, as well as the line ‘3,000 Sala Purni Gulami’ can be revised as ‘Kai Salani Golam’.

After sharing the trailer of ‘Phule’ on April 10, a part of the Brahmin community raised objections on the portrayal of their members in the film. It will now be released on 25 April.

Gandhi, who plays the title role of Jyotirao Govindrao Phule in the film, said that he may have missed the release date of April 11, but expected that things will be better only here.

“I was shooting somewhere when I came to know that this (film) is pushed for two weeks. I was immediately disappointed. But then I spoke to him (the makers) and I came to know the reason … These are the reasons that you have no control …

The actor told PTI in an interview, “It was disappointing for a major reason as it was the anniversary of Jyotoro Phule’s 197th birth anniversary on 11 April

According to Gandhi, the makers were asked to do “some amendments” in the final film.

“There are some things that were asked to soften a little and was communicated differently. In relation to the film, without changing or harming the film, whatever was possible that I have been told.

He said, “In addition, there was a sudden (ruckus) set of those who felt it was against him or his ideology. On April 25 suddenly felt a better date for distributors and producers,” he said.

The actor is known for ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’, ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’ and ‘Madgaon Express’, said that he is eager to see the final cut of ‘Phule’.

Gandhi appealed to the Brahmin community not to judge the film on the basis of his trailer.

He said, “I was surprised by the response, but I can also understand where they are coming from. I am requesting them to watch the film and then make their opinion because everything they have seen is just a trailer. So what you have just seen are the lines that are out of the context,” he said.

Mahadevan had earlier told PTI that the dispute around ‘Phule’ was “unnecessary” as he had already complied with CBFC on the amendments already suggested.

The director also said that he pushed the release to clean the controversy as nothing was objectionable in the film.

Patilekha starring Savitribai Phule, ‘Phule’ is supported by Shiv Films and Kingsman Productions Dancing. It will be released in theaters by Zee Studios.
