New Delhi: Ahead of this year’s much-awaited San Diego Comic-Con, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ reveals new details for the eagerly-awaited Season 2 premiere, introducing and teasing new characters.
New characters introduced in the JRR Tolkien adaptation include the legendary dwarf Narvi (played by Kevin Eldon), an elven cartographer from Ariador-Camnir (played by Callum Lynch), an elven archer from Lindon named Rian (played by Selina Lo), and Mirdania (played by Amelia Kenworthy), a disciple of the master craftsman Celebrimbor.
1. Narvi, (played by Kevin Eldon)
The great dwarf, Narvi, was described by JRR Tolkien as a “craftsman”, a dwarf expert, and a close friend of Celebrimbor. Together, they built the famous Doors of Durin on the western shore of Khazad-dûm.
Owain Arthur, who returns as Durin IV, prince of the kingdom of Khazad-dûm, said, “He’s in and out of the action throughout the season. He’s only mentioned in Tolkien’s appendixes, and he’s described as a great craftsman. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay had very little to tell, but I think we’ve successfully turned this footnote into a flesh-and-blood character. As well as being a brilliant architect, we see in Season 2 that he’s also an advisor. He’s King Durin’s right-hand man.” Talking about his character as Narvi,
Alden said, “Nervi’s journey in Season 2 is interesting, because the king is slowly falling under the power of the rings. The rings are tormenting him; he’s becoming less logical and showing signs of insanity. So Nervi has to make a very difficult choice about whether he’s going to follow his natural instincts, which is to be loyal and obey the king’s wishes, or give up that basic necessity of his life and show more loyalty to Khazad-dûm instead? He gets to a point where he has to jump one way or the other. I’m not going to tell you what he chooses, but it’s definitely a dilemma for him.”
2. Camnir (played by Callum Lynch)
Camnir’s origins are unclear, but he is known to be an expert Elven map-maker, with particular expertise in navigating the forests of Eriador. After an unexpected threat requires finding a new route to Eregion, Camnir’s bravery will be put to the test when Elrond’s band of warrior-elves face an unexpected attack on the road: the Barrow-wights.
3. Ryan (played by Selina Lo)
Considered one of the finest archers in Lindon, Riane is one of the members of Elrond’s recently formed group of warrior-elves. Her courage and aim will prove invaluable in the Battle of Eregion.
4. Mirdania (played by Amelia Kenworthy)
Mirdania is the disciple of the master craftsman Celebrimbor, but her loyalty will be tested when an unexpected visitor arrives in Eregion, one who has the potential to change the fate of the Elven-smiths forever.
