Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran and his wife Supriya Menon have acquired a majority stake in Kochi FC, which will participate in the new six-team Super League Kerala.
The Super League will begin at the end of August and the Kochi team, formerly known as Kochi Pipers FC, has been renamed Kochi FC.
Prithviraj hoped that the inaugural season of the league would give a major boost to football activities at the professional and grassroots level and create opportunities for deserving and budding players.
Super League CEO Mathew Joseph said Prithviraj’s participation will ensure a unique blend of entertainment and sports in Kerala during the 60-day football mega event.
There have been other changes in the Kochi team as well. Pravesh Kuzhipally and Shamim Backer, who were earlier co-owners of the Kannur team, have now become co-owners of Kochi FC along with Nasly Mohammed and Mohammed Shyjal.
