Indian poet, painter, filmmaker and former MP Pritish Nandy passed away on Wednesday (January 8, 2025) at the age of 73. Actor Anupam Kher condoled Nandy’s demise in a post on X and described him as a ‘fearless’ artiste and a source of strength during his years of struggle.
Paying an emotional tribute, Mr Kher wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked to learn about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandi! Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength during my early days in Mumbai. We shared many things. He was one of the most fearless people I have met. Always larger than life. I learned a lot of things from him. We did not meet often for some time. But there was a time when we were inseparable! I will never forget when he surprised me by putting me on the cover of Filmfare and more importantly #TheIllustatedWelky. He was the true definition of yaaron ka yaar! I will miss you and the times we spent together, my friend. rest well.”
Columnist and entrepreneur Suhail Seth also paid tribute to Nandy, writing, “Deeply saddened by the demise of my dear friend @PritishNandy, we often used to make harmless (and humorous) jokes on Twitter. Have a nice trip Pritish…”
A distinguished magazine editor and literary voice, Pritish Nandy established his production banner, Pritish Nandy Communications, in the 1990s. He also hosted a DD show called The Pritish Nandy Show.
