Punjab Women’s Commission called Honey Singh, Karan Aujla on wrong songs in the latest albums

Taking cognizance of Suu Motu, the Punjab State Women’s Commission has called Punjabi singers and rappers Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh to promote women’s wrong content and ‘objective’ in their recent songs.

Punjab State Women’s Commission Chairman Raj Lali Gill told ANI on Thursday that the Commission had reviewed complaints and public reactions about some songs and scenes in the latest release of Honey Singh and Karan Aujla, and wrote to the Director General of State (DGP), who urges immediate action.

According to the chairperson, the songs in Ajula and Honey Singh’s latest release were allegedly derogatory to women and potentially harmful to social values.

“The songs that have been used in it are neither controlled by the language nor thought. When we go on the stage, we tell all that the biggest role in my life is of my mother. We respect her a lot. We understand her. You misuse her. So, you are also working to play this double role?

On further action, the chairman of the Punjab State Women’s Commission said that they have asked the DGP and other concerned officials to call the singers, demanding their apology.

“The action is that I have sent it to Bai (Bureau of Investigation) and DGP and they (Aujla and Honey Singh) should be called. And even if I know they are not in the country at this time, but still I should contact them and get a clarification. When they give a clarification, we will tell us again when they give a clarification.

The controversy is Karan Auzla’s new singles, ‘MF Gabhru’, which is from his album ‘P-Pop Culture’, despite the popularity, the ‘Gabhru’ track has been labeled as ‘Micinistic’ and ‘unfair’.

Similarly, the track of Honey Singh titled ‘Millionaire’ also includes objectionable language towards women. The song was released in August 2024 as part of his album Glory, which marked his return.

Aujla’s new album ‘P-Pop Culture’ is by Warner Music Canada/Warner Music India. It is a adventure fusion of global pop and hard-touching Punjabi hip-hop.

According to a press note, the project is divided into two separate moods, with a dealing in the emotional and melodic aspects of Punjabi pop, while Side B investigates the gritty, bass-blessings of Punjabi hip-hop.

A few months ago, Karan collaborated with the American pop superstar onrappablak on the single ‘Tail Me’.

Karan made headlines with his tracks such as ‘Yarian Ch Fik’, ‘Unity’, ‘Alcohol 2’, and ‘Lafaf’; Subsequently, he gained mainstream popularity in 2018 with ‘Dont Chinta’. Last year, he gave Bollywood one of the hit track, ‘Tauba Tauba’ in Vicky Kaushal-Star ‘Bad News’.

As Honey Singh, the singer’s documentary ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous’ won the IIFA Digital Awards for Best Dock-Series/Film in the 25th edition of IIFA in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Directed by Mozes Singh and produced by Sikh Entertainment, gives a rare glimpse in the life of documentary singer Hirdesh Singh, known as Honey Singh.
