Parliament has earlier passed a bill that provides for a maximum prison sentence of three years and a fine of up to five percent of the film’s production cost for persons involved in film piracy and dissemination of such material.
“We will stop film piracy through this bill. This has been a long-standing demand of the film industry,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said while talking about the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2023 in the Lok Sabha.
