Quentin Tarantino is in the news again this week after a new round of comments from his appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. The 62-year-old director was talking about his personal list of the top 20 films of the 21st century, but the conversation moved to something else – about actors he says he never warmed to.
Owen Wilson and Tarantino’s Comments on “Midnight in Paris”
During the discussion, Tarantino mentioned Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris (2011), which he ranked 10th on his list. He said almost absurdly that he had long struggled with Owen Wilson’s work.
He said, “I really can’t stand Owen Wilson. I loved him and hated him the first time I saw the movie. The second time I saw it, I was like ‘Ah, okay, don’t be such a prick, he’s not so bad.’ Then, the third time I looked at it, I realized I was only looking at her.”
Criticism of Paul Dano resurfaces after Tarantino’s comments on podcast
Tarantino also cited There Will Be Blood as one of his favorites, but stopped short of mentioning what he considered a major flaw in the film – Paul Dano.
He argued that the play was designed to be a “two-hander”, but claimed that it becomes clear “it’s not a two-hander” because Dano is “weak sauce.” He went on to call the actor “the weakest f–king actor at SAG” and suggested that Austin Butler would be better suited for the role.
,[Dano] That’s weak sauce, man. She is a weak sister. Austin Butler would have been amazing in that role. He is a completely weak, feeble, unpleasant person. The weakest f-king actor at SAG [laughs].” He said.
Matthew Lillard has also been named by Tarantino
After naming Dano and Wilson, Tarantino added another actor to the list – Matthew Lillard. Putting all three in the same category, he said, “I don’t care about that.” No additional explanation was given.
