Mumbai: The 78th British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nomination
The film was written and directed by Karan Kandhari and produced by Elestaire Clarke, Anna Giffin and Allen McCelax.
Apart from Radhika Apte, the film also includes Ashok Pathak, Chhaya Kadam, Smita Tambe and Navya Sawant.
Nominated for excellent British debut in this year’s BAFTA, Sister Midnight was one of the most talked about at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated in the Golden Camera Awards and a fortnight of directors.
Also enrolled for four British independent Film Awards (Bifa), Sister Midnight won the best painting at Austin’s Fantastic Fest at the next Wave Award and was warmly obtained at festivals around the world.
According to the press note by the makers of the film, the summary of the film,
“Newly married, Uma (Radhika Apte) moves out to accommodate life with her husband, Gopal (Ashok Pathak). Living together in a small room in Mumbai, life is not easy for her, especially when Gopal disappears for hours, she is not in the end, without leaving her money.
Director, Karan also shared the idea of his inspiration for the film.
Karan quoted in a press note, “What is the first morning in a systematic marriage, it started only with the idea that the man goes to work and he is just there and you have no manual to do so. It is really about the fact that there is no manual for anything in life.”
He credits the legendary silent film star Buster Keaton as a major impact.
Karan quoted in a press note as said, “He was one of my heroes because he could do a lot with these subtle facial gestures.
Sister Midnight is the beginning of direction of Karan Kandhari.
